From November 5-11, 2018, the Mayakoba Golf Classic returns once again to the beautiful resort complex of Mayakoba, located in Playa del Carmen. 132 professional golfers will find themselves competing in 4 rounds of stroke play on the Greg Norman-designed golf course named El Camaleón, to win a purse of $7,200,000, the largest prize money for any golf event in Latin America.
This is where the PGA Tour’s best players come every year, names like Jason Day, John Daly, David Duval, Matt Kuchar, Bill Haas, JB Holmes, Tom Lehman, Greg Norman, Bubba Watson, Gramee McDowell and many others. Past winners include Fred Funk (2007), Brian Gay (2008), Harris English (2013), Pat Perez (2016) and last year’s winner Patton Kizzire.
The first OHL Classic took place in 2006 in Mayakoba and made golf history when it became the first PGA TOUR event to ever be contested outside of the United States. The following year they held their inaugural Golf Para Todos, a free golf instructional program for people in the area, with the goal to introduce families to the game of golf and enhance the skills of those of those who already played.
For those of you who would like to attend general admission tickets are available for $200 pesos, allowing you access to the grounds of the golf club and the ability to follow your favorite players around as they move form hole to hole. Aside from the grounds you also get access to the public spectator bleachers and the “Beach Club by Patron.” If you are coming with your children you will be happy to know that if they are 17 or younger they get in free with a ticketed adult.
Maykoba is a 45 minute drive from Gate48 and upon arrival you will find free visitor parking and a shuttle bus which will take you to the golf club.
