Riviera Maya Jazz Festival 2018

From Friday, November 30 to Sunday, December 2 , Mamitas Beach Club will once again host the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival, returning for its 16th year. The annual festival hosts some of the biggest names in jazz music worldwide, from bands to solo artists, who headline three days of music in the Mexican Caribbean. Sergio Mendez, Herbie Hancock, Earth, Wind, and Fire and many other great names to take the stage at the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival.

Here are the people that will be performing  this year:

Friday, Nov. 30

Cozumel-based Mayan artist Kike Pat will take the stage with his show “A Maya in Jazz.”

Washington native Lori Williams performs alongside New Yorker Bob Baldwin, with a blend of rhythms that include Latin, Brazilian and Afro.

Bebel Gilberto deep Brazilian flavors of bossa nova are augmented with a modern, electronic sound.

Saturday, December 1

Mr. Drew Tucker and the New Standard are an American band that play contemporary jazz.

Cristina Morrison is a Miami-based singer who’s theatrical style enhances her performance.

Paco Rosas is one of the most recognized Mexican guitarists in the world.

Grammy award-winning singer, songwriter and pianist Norah Jones closes out Saturday night.

Sunday, December 2

Mexican bass player Pepe Hernández will open the show with a funk project.

Lalah Hathaway, a great five-time Grammy winning R&B singer.

Closing off the last night of the festival will be Grammy winning artist Bobby McFerrin, who was due to perform last year but was unable to due to poor weather conditions.

The Riviera Maya Jazz Festival regularly attracts thousands of people to Playa del Carmen and this year’s numbers are expected to be even higher to the incredible lineup of jazz musicians.

Bring some beach chairs or blankets, as well as some snacks and drinks. Don’t forget to clean up after yourself, food and drinks are allowed in the beach area and the festival depends on attendees playing their part in keeping the area clean. Make sure to get there early to get a good seat, as it does get crowded and the rear areas are standing room only.
