Meat dishes are very popular in the Riviera Maya and are served in many combinations. But what if you are a vegetarian? You will be happy to know that there are many restaurants in Playa del Carmen where you can purchase a delicious vegetarian meal. Here are some of our favorites:
Avenida 10 between Calle 16 and Constituyentes
Salad lovers will be happy to know that this place has over a half a dozen from which to choose from. They also have dishes with quinoa and rice dishes with miso or seaweed. They are also well known for smoothies, so give one a try while you are there.
La Senda Vegana
Avenida 10 between Calle 10 and Calle 10 Bis
Do you like to eat hummus and falafel? Perhaps guacamole and lentils are more to your liking? If you’d like to try their breakfast make sure to arrive before 1.00 pm and order some of their crepes, chilaquiles and muffins. If you prefer to come for lunch check out their salads and lentil burgers, with a banana muffin for dessert.
The Pitted Date:
Calle 26 between Avenida 5 and Avenida 10
This vegan café and bakery serves a delicious macadamia nut cheesecake and a tasty maple walnut tarte. They use flaxseed and flax meal in their cakes and muffins. We recommend their vegan pesto zucchini pasta.
Gluay Maai Thai
Calle 38, east of Quinta Avenida
Spring rolls, tofu and Pad Thai are among the dishes prepared here that use soy protein instead of meat, fish or chicken. They also have a variety of rice and noodle dishes.
Calle 20 between Avenida 10 and 15
This restaurant serves up a great vegetarian eggplant with sweet mashed potato. Their chilaquiles are made with organic eggs and the tempura vegetables.
