3D Museum of Wonders in Playa del Carmen

In today’s blog we are going to tell you about a unique museum located in the heart of downtown Playa del Carmen. It is the first of its kind in the Americas, with only five other museums like this in the world. You and your family will discover that this is not your typical art gallery, as guests are invited to interact and take selfies with the 3D art on display.

The museum is a 38 minute drive from Gate48, located in downtown Playa del Carmen. It’s on 10th avenue, at the corner of 10 calle norte inside of the Pelican Plaza. They have a parking lot outside the building and there is a big sign outside, so you can’t miss it. Before entering the gallery you will be asked to remove footwear, so consider taking a pair of socks with you so as to avoid walking on the floor in bare feet and catching a chill.

Once inside you will access to over 60 pieces of work by artist Kurt Wenner, each one carefully crafted to create a unique optical illusions or visual effect. Visitors to the art gallery are encouraged to take pictures, so don’t forget to bring your DSLR or cell phone, otherwise you will be missing out. Why is that? Because the 3D effect of the artwork is seen through the lens of your camera!

Ask your family to pose for you and adjust until you get the hang of how it works. Once you’ve begun capturing images you can begin to experiment with perspective and depth perception until end up with some unique compositions. It won’t take long for you to get the hang of it, but if you find yourself having difficulty or require tips on how to capture images correctly ask one of the museums guides to help you.

The museum also has two movie theaters showing screenings in 3D, so this is a great way to enjoy a few hours with your family. Not only will you get to see some amazing art work but you get to put yourself in the frame as well. When you return home you can upload your creations to Instagram or Facebook and show off your amazing selfie artwork to your friends online. They will no doubt ask you many questions about how you made them, so prepare dazzle them with your newfound techniques of illusion and magic.
