Xcaret Park: Fun for the Whole Family

Are you looking for something to do with your family while vacationing with us at Gate48? Then we recommend a visit to Xcaret Park in the Riviera Maya. Pronounced “ish-ka-ret,” this eco-archaeological theme park has been recognized as one of the world’s best international theme parks and is fun for adults and children of all ages. There is a lot to do here and it is ideally located only 25 minutes away from Gate48 on the main road to Playa del Carmen.

So in order to help you plan your day there let’s take a look at some of the many unique activities that you can enjoy here.

Do you like animals? Xcaret has an aquarium with over tropical fish, turtles, nursery sharks, and manta rays. In their wildlife breeding area you’ll find many different bird species such as tucans, flamingo and macaw, while the butterfly pavilion hosts over twenty species of butterflies that are nestled in amongst a waterfall and vegetation.

If your family love to swim they will love the underground river. As long as your children are aged 5 and up they can enjoy this 45 minutes leisurely activity. After working up an appetite you can grab a bite to eat at one of Xcaret’s many restaurants and bars.

If you want to learn a bit about the history of the area check out their Mayan village and learn about the traditional way of life of the indigenous people of the region. Wooden houses with thatched roofs are surrounded by local artisan going about their work, and there is even a Mexican cemetery full of tombstones. If you are lucky enough to be here at the beginning of November you’ll be able to take part in their Day of the Dead celebrations.

Xcaret has an archaeological site which was once used as ceremonial center and place for trade back in the 15th and 16th century. It is also the point of departure for those who were headed to the island of Cozumel, where they would visit the shrine of the goddess Ixchel.

Finally you and your loved ones can finish the day off with Xcaret’s nightly show, called México Espectacular. It is a great way to learn about Mexico’s history, from the Prehispanic era, colonial times and the modern Mexico. Expect to hear lots of Mexican mariachi music and see folk dancing, along with incredible displays from the the voladores.

Regardless of how you choose to spend your day at Xcaret or what activities you take part in, you and your family are sure to have a memorable experience. Xcaret is a unique experience and one of the many great things you can do when you book with us at Gate48.
