Fun Things to Do in Tulum

Tulum is a 25 minute drive from Gate48 and filled with many fun things to. In today’s blog we will look at several places where you can go that are unique to this beautiful paradise of the Riviera Maya.

Mayan Ruins

The Ek’ Balam archaeological site is not as well known than the other Mayan ruins, but is just as impressive. It sits on a cliff that overlooks the Caribbean Sea, and has a tower that is one of the largest in the region. This was once home to the Maya, whose culture in the Yucatan Peninsula left behind cities like this one. When you take the tour it will guide you through large sections of staircases and decks, eventually leading you down to the beautiful blue waters.

It was occupied as early as 564 A.D. from the Middle Preclassic to the Postclassic period, after which the population grew and the city expanded, eventually being abandoned. Among the architectural features are the impressive defensive walls, the entrance arch which was constructed over the road that leads to the city, the Oval Palace which was used for cosmological ceremonies and ‘The Throne,’ a temple with a doorway shaped like a mouth.

Sian Ka’an Biosphere Nature Reserve

This place is a UNESCO World Heritage site, located on the east coast of the Yucatán peninsula. The name comes from the Maya, meaning ‘Origin of the Sky’. Visitors here get access to tropical forests, marshes, and mangroves. The place serves as a habitat for hundreds of birds that enjoy the rich flora and fauna. Some of the animals that live here include the black howler monkey, black iguanas, crocodiles, pumas, and flamingo. They cohabit in a diverse environment with a complex hydrological system. Established in 1986, it also includes archaeological sites of the Maya civilization.

Gran Cenote

Located in the middle of the jungle, this is a naturally-formed limestone sinkhole, great for diving and snorkeling. It is also ideal for a day of swimming. It has crystal-clear water for shallow diving and snorkeling, making for a nice cool, refreshing dip.

Parque Ecológico Labnaha

Inside of this park you will find Mundo Mágico Maya you will find all kinds of exciting activities such as ziplining, snorkelling and kayaking. This place is great place for a family that is looking for some adventure and physical activity.

Tulum has some of the best beaches world, topping the list of most travel or vacation destination publications. They are covered with soft, white sand and surrounded by clear blue water, with beach clubs and seafood restaurants nearby.
